We enjoy three days at sea and have fun with some special events

Our Legendary Alaska Cruise ended on July 7th.    I will be updating this blog with the remaining ports and special events.   Stay Tuned!

CRUISING THE BERING SEA

We sailed south for the next three days, back through the Aleutian Islands en route to our next port visit in Kodiak, Alaska.

We enjoyed a nice view of Pogromni Volcano, 6.665 feet, and we passed thru the Aleutian Islands from the Bering Sea into the Gulf of Alaska.

Our Roll Call was active, with over 5,400 posts. Over the 18 months leading up to this cruise, we planned several traditional roll call activities, including a Meet-and-Greet, Cabin Crawl, Slot Pull, several reunions for people on previous or future cruises, and today, a Gift Exchange.

GIFT EXCHANGE

Jackie organized the gift exchange. Here is how it worked. Everyone who wanted to participate would bring a gift (No more than $20) from their hometown/country or something homemade. About 40 people signed up and met in the Half Moon Room at 2 pm on 22 June 24.

The Gift Exchange took place in the Half Moon Room at 2 PM

Everyone was assigned a number, and a paper ticket with the corresponding number was placed in a bag. Jackie pulled a number, and the guest with that number could select any one of the wrapped gifts on the table. After they had unwrapped their gift for all to see, another number was pulled and continued until the last number. The entire process took about 45 minutes.

The most popular gifts seemed to be food as they wouldn’t take up space in a suitcase going home. But there was a delightful variety of gifts, from local crafts to homemade treats, making the exchange a true reflection of our diverse cruise community.

My gift was a variety of small items, including these beach chair towel clips.

If you have more time and interest, try a White Elephant Gift Exchange – more HERE. This variation allows people to pick a new gift from the unopened gift pile or “steal” an already selected gift from someone else.

LIDO FUN FAIR (CARNIVAL GAMES)

An activity you will find on Legendary and Grand Voyages is the Lido Fun Fair. The Fun Fair featured various county fair-style carnival games around the Lido pool from 2 pm to 3 pm. The games are free, and you can win tickets based on how well you perform in each game.

One difference between a Legendary Voyage and a Grand Voyage was the scope of the Lido Fair. The Lido Fair on the Grand Voyage was called the Grand Fun Fair, had twice as many games and took place in the evening for two hours rather than one hour in the afternoon.

Here are the five games that were available today:

Shuffleboard
Cornhole
Ring Toss
Golf Putting Contest
Ball Bucket Toss/Bounce

Cornhole
Ring Toss

Each game is free, and you can play as often as you like. The better you do at a particular game, the more raffle tickets you get. For example, when playing cornhole you got one ticket for every bag that landed on the board and two tickets if it went in the hole.

Once you have your tickets, you put one half in a metal drum on the awards table and keep the other half.

After one hour, around 3 o’clock, the games ended and the winning numbers were drawn. The prizes were various logo items – hats, shirts, ship models, etc. along with bottles of wine.

This table displayed the prizes awarded when after the fair ended at 3 PM

Here is a short video about the Grand Fair we enjoyed on the 2024 World Cruise

SLOT PULL

On our second sea day after Nome about 30 people met in the Casino for a slot pull. Everyone kicked in $16. $15 (Three $5 spins) went into the machine, with $1 going into a community pot awarded to the player with the highest score for their three spins. The machine was pretty tight, and after the smoke cleared, everyone received $10 of their $15.

Everyone crowded around the slot machine to root for good luck

COSTUME PARTY

We had a costume party on our final night at sea before we arrived in Kodiak. There was a movie on the World Stage, so the party should have a good turnout. Before this cruise, we bought Polar Bear costumes from Amazon HERE

Susan joined us in the Rolling Stone Lounge in her 60’s hippie costume

The party started at 9 PM, and there were probably 30 people wearing costumes, with about a dozen wearing something fairly elaborate. One person was dressed like the Phantom from Phantom of the Opera, and another created a full-sized Raven Costume.
