Ruben Vilagrand, the mime magician, who performed a few nights ago, was the guest this morning at Coffee Chat. A native of Spain, he developed his silent show while performing in Europe. With so many different languages spoken, he wanted to have a show that would instantly translate across cultures. He is working on a show that will be in Las Vegas soon, so if you are visiting Vegas in the future, check and see if he is performing during your visit.

DRAKE PASSAGE
We are crossing the Drake Passage today, which can be quite rough or as smooth as a lake. While it wasn’t glass smooth today, it was relatively calm as far as Antarctica sailings go.
CRAFTS
Judy went to the afternoon Craft session in the Lido. Today they assembled a charm necklace with Antarctica themed charms. All the pieces are stainless steel which Judy liked because they won’t cause a rash on her skin.
Today’s Craft Project
In the hallway across from the Library, there is a bulletin board that is available for guests to post general interest items or look for people with shared interests who may want to gather for cards.

KNITTING UPDATE
Judy continues to knit her Southern Ocean Skinny Scarf series. She has completed her Falklands scarf and just finished the Drake Passage scarf. She is now working on the Glacier and Penguin scarves.

ANTARCTICA ADVENTURE DINNER
Tonight’s theme for dinner was the Antarctica Adventure. Ben Sack, artist in residence from 2018, joined us for dinner. We had a special appearance by some Penguins! We bought these costumes before we left home and had fun wearing them this evening. Many crewmembers wanted to snap my photo as we moved about the ship.

ADAM WESTCOTT
Adam Westcott, an extraordinary flamenco guitarist, was the featured performer on the Mainstage this evening. He performed a wonderful rendition of the Led Zeppelin classic – Stairway to Heaven.
After the show we stopped by the Crow’s Nest for a drink. It was pretty dead, maybe a dozen people enjoying the music of the Station Band.
Penguins in the Crow’s Nest!
Tomorrow is the first day of our Antarctica Experience!

Love the penguin suits!
Are the patterns Judy is knitting for South America her own designs, or from another source?
HI Laura, I found the project on Ravelry. Smal Ulla Med Volang The pattern is no longer available, but I did a bit of reverse engineering. The skinny scarf section is knit in the round on 30 stitches. The ruffly ends are 120 stitches that are decreased on one round at the beginning and increased on one round at the end. The photos look like there are two layers of ruffles, which made the increases and decreases as well as joining the two ruffles into one very complicated and a challenge to keep the stitches from falling off the needle. I sort of fudged what I did, but it looks OK. The yarn is sock yarn, and the needles are a US3 circular. Thanks for asking. Judy
I am looking forward to reading your Antarctic days. We are going on the 74 day 2021 South America Grand Cruise so you are travelling in the opposite direction that we will be. I have been following and reading your blog. Learning much. Thanks.
It’s a wonderful trip. It’s not that cold – may 30 or so, but with the wind chill it can be a little nippy. A windbreaker is all you really need over a sweater.

Love your penguin costumes. Bet you were the only ones who thought of it.
